シネマ歌舞伎「鷺娘」-坂東玉三郎を大スクリーンで(映画館で楽しむ能楽・歌舞伎・時代劇)

A gem of ultimately excellent dance - Expressing a single-minded maddening love sometimes quietly and sometimes gorgeously with a dance.
Received an ovation all over the world, including New York, London, Berlin, Wien etc.!!
The legendary stage will appear again on the screen with a commentary and English caption.

Sagi no Sei: Tamasaburo Bando
After the premiere in 1978, Tamasaburo performed and received a massive ovation at the Metropolitan Opera House 100th Anniversary Gala Concert in 1984, where many prominent world-class artists were lined up, and "Sagimusume" became one of his representative works, raising its overwhelming beauty
and the level of perfection every time it was performed both within and outside Japan.
It was stated clearly that the performance in 2009 would be the last and after that the whole program would not be played. Please take this opportunity as it can only be watched in the movie.

[Synopsis] From a white heron to a coquettish girl, to a woman seducing her lover and hellish betrayal, Heron Maiden is one of the most challenging pure dance roles in Kabuki Theater. With 15 musicians on stage, and dramatic instant costume changes amid swirling snow, the popular Heron Maiden is only performed by a star Onnagata (male actors specializing in female roles). From his first bird-like steps to his expressive fingers, this is Tamasaburo’s signature piece.

Recorded: May 2005, Kabukiza Theater

Seldom is poetry granted a perfect human vessel, but Bando Tamasaburo is revelatory as the Heron Maiden. His performance is an astonishing achievement of grace, technique, vision, and drama in one immortal body. Every moment is ripe with emotion – sometimes restrained, sometimes unleashed – but always under the masterful control of the greatest onnagata in modern history.
- Mikhail Baryshnikov
