This time Tokyo Gallery + BTAP will hold Tatsuo Takayama Exhibition.
As an attempt to review postwar Japanese art after World War II, we have introduced artists from Western-style painting, including Seiji Chōkai Exhibition in 2017, and Yasuo Kazuki Exhibition in 2018.
In this exhibition, Tatsuo Takayama of Japanese-style painting will be exhibited.
*Tatsuo Takayama was born in Oita City, Oita Prefecture in 1912 (in the 45th year of Meiji, the first year of Taisho).
In 1931 he entered the Department of Japanese Painting, Tokyo School of Fine Arts (Tokyo University of the Arts), under Eikyū Matsuoka.
He was throughout about realism under the influence of Western painting before the war, but he drew Tosa school like and gentle color painting.
After the war, he lost his attitude of producing Japanese painting and Japan's present state of affairs, but at Kyujin Yamamoto's recommendation, he read Paul Gauguin's biography, which greatly influenced his style and lifestyle.
After that, he headed to the composition of color planes as if they were separated from tradition, and the abstract expressions that were deformed.
